Recently I was talking to a friend who had been desperately applying for multiple jobs. While having this conversation we were talking about the fact that within one of her interviews the employer asked if its okay to look her up on her social media platforms. Of course, she said yes as she is desperately looking for a job but I found it interesting that the employer asked. In one of my topics I'm studying (Human Resource Planning, Recruitment and Selection) I recently wrote a piece about the legal obligations of using social media through both recruitment and selection processes and found that there are many legal obligations if the company had not warned the potential employee. From this, it shows how powerful social media is, in the fact that most employees today are going to go through the screening process of reading your CV, conducting an interview then finally seeking out your social media to see what you like out of the office.
The importance of social media marketing for that individual candidate going for a position within any workplace is critical. This meaning that candidates going for positions should make sure their social media pages are up to standard where they are presented well and representable enough to work at an employee. Factors such as statuses or comments you write, photos of you from social events, videos that you make or share can affect your future career. Really social media is a way to market yourself for your future career.
