IMPORTANCE OF FACEBOOK

Facebook is becoming a huge part of the workforce in today's business world. Businesses are now using social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and even Snapchat to promote, advertise and get sponsorships. In 2017 the Content Strategist explained that Facebook has increased its user amount and added over a hundred million users within one quarter. Facebook is now social networking number one (shown in Figure 1) for Ad revenue during 2016 worldwide of 67.9%, this compared to Twitter with 7.9% and other (e.g. other social networks, network gaming and social network apps). Today social network ad total is up to $32.97 billion.

This shows the importance of social media as workplaces are using social media networks not just as way to connect to their consumers across the globe but now is a way for businesses to promote themselves across many different platforms across the planet. Today with Facebook I have experienced many ways that social media marketing has affected what I see on my own Facebook. When I use Google to search factors e.g. restaurants, clothing stores or even when I was looking for the right suited blogging site, Facebook then promoted sponsored ads with these companies I had looked up or similar helping to market to their right demographic. This is a interesting and creative way for companies to utilise social media marketing in their favour to generate new interests and clientele.

IMPORTANCE OF SOCIAL MEDIA WITH RECRUITMENT AND SELECTION

Recently I was talking to a friend who had been desperately applying for multiple jobs. While having this conversation we were talking about the fact that within one of her interviews the employer asked if its okay to look her up on her social media platforms. Of course, she said yes as she is desperately looking for a job but I found it interesting that the employer asked. In one of my topics I'm studying (Human Resource Planning, Recruitment and Selection) I recently wrote a piece about the legal obligations of using social media through both recruitment and selection processes and found that there are many legal obligations if the company had not warned the potential employee. From this, it shows how powerful social media is, in the fact that most employees today are going to go through the screening process of reading your CV, conducting an interview then finally seeking out your social media to see what you like out of the office. The importance of social media marketing fo...
